Hayling Island

A coastal island south of Havant, known for its beaches, watersports, and seaside community.

Hayling Island is a popular coastal destination south of Havant, connected to the mainland by a single road bridge. The island is known for its sandy beaches, watersports, and the birthplace of modern windsurfing. It has a distinct island community with its own shops, pubs, and services.

## Hayling Island Beaches

The south beach runs for several miles and is one of the best sandy beaches in Hampshire. The beach is popular for families, swimming, and beach sports. Sinah Warren holiday park sits at the western end of the beach, alongside Hayling Island Sailing Club.

## Watersports and Activities

Hayling Island has a strong watersports culture — it is often cited as the birthplace of modern windsurfing, with local resident Peter Chilvers developing the first sailboard here in the 1950s. Kitesurfing, paddleboarding, and sailing are all popular, with several clubs and hire centres operating on the island.
